Its becoming more and more evident the impact our consumption and habits have on our environment. Fortunately there lots of awesome new products and tips to help live a more waste-free life.
1. The basics - reuse, reduce and recycle
Consider the 3 R's in every purchase. It really is a lifestyle change and does make you double think sometimes which is great. Reuse what you have. Reduce the amount (especially plastics), and recycle everything you can instead of disposing of it in the trash.
2. Reusable bags
The majority of plastic bags cant or dont get recycled. They often end up in landfill or the ocean. Keep reusable bags in your car for the supermarket and other shops. Get into the habit of taking them in with you or even use a bigger handbag that you can put small purchases in. Try saying 'no thanks' when asked if you need a bag.
3. Ditch the one time use plastics
As well as bags, take your own reusable coffee cup. Most takeaway cups are lined with plastic and cant be recycled. Cafes are pretty used to it now and are happy to accommodate your own cup.
Ditch the plastic wrap and opt for beeswax wraps or make the most of the containers you already have. Have some cutlery wrapped in a beeswax wrap ready for when you need it. Ditch the bin liner, do you really need one anyway? It only takes a couple of minutes to wash out a bin.
4. Consider the packaging
Will the products you use regularly break down in nature? Although recycling is great its better to avoid materials like plastic in the first place. Even clothes you buy, are they polyester or cotton? What will happen after the lifetime of that item. Our Bee Fresh deodorant comes in fully compostable packaging and is even posted without any use of plastic.
5. Check the ingredients
What chemicals are in the household products you buy? Surprisingly a lot of them are not biodegradable and damage our waterways. Many synthetic non-natural ingredients can also negatively effect our health more than we would know. Always check out the ingredients list. Do you recognise the names of the ingredients? At Bee Fresh we only use natural ingredients like coconut oil. shea butter, beeswax and essential oils etc. All come from nature and are not produced in a lab.
Heres an example of our original packaging, we still use all zero plastic packaging.
Body odour is caused by bacteria on our skin. Sweat is actually odourless when we have clean skin. Once the sweat is mixed with the bacteria on our skin, thats when the bacteria start to multiply and smells arise. Sweating is our bodies natural mechanism for removing toxins from our body.
You may be thinking, whats so bad about commercial deodorants then. Many deodorant brands on the market are packed full of chemicals. Aluminum is the main ingredient in most commercial deodorants and listed as a toxic chemical. It blocks our pores and prevents the flow of sweat. However this is not good for our body. Alot of new research links aluminum to breast cancer, alzheimers disease and endocrine (hormone) disruption. These compounds can be absorbed by the skin and may mimic estrogen, which promotes growth of breast cancer cells. And its not just aluminum that can be harmful.... parabens, triclosan, talc, synthetic fragrances and preservatives all have negative effects on our body.
Natural deodorants like Bee Fresh work by preventing bacteria growth without blocking the pores. Made with all natural and organic ingredients there is absolutely no dought in harm to your body or arm pitts. Bee Fresh works specifically to adjust the PH level so bacteria is unable to bread. Essential oils and natural bacteria fighting ingredients like beeswax and coconut oil also work to fight bacteria and odours. The tapioca starch helps absorb sweat. With Bee Fresh you will be completely odourless all day without the need to reapply.
